Law Admission Test (LAT) Overview

On August 31, 2018, the Supreme Court of Pakistan made the Law Admission Test (LAT) a requirement for students wanting to join the Five-Year LL.B. Program.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) conducts this test three times a year.

Who Can Apply?

You can apply if you have completed your intermediate education or are waiting for your results. 

  • Students who have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or
  • Students who have appeared in the final examination of HSSC or equivalent and their result is awaited

Passing the LAT requires a minimum passing mark of 50.

Law Admission Test (LAT) Classes at ICL

Indus College of Law (ICL) offers coaching/preparatory classes for the Law Admission Test (LAT). 

Each portion of LAT is taught by a lecturer, professor or subject specialist with relevant credentials, acumen and experience. 

The LAT classes are offered in-person at our main Indus College of Law, Hyderabad campus, and also online via ZOOM / Google Meets.

Wherever necessary, hand-outs are provided to students to bolster their learning.

Furthermore, we frequently conduct assessments and provide test-day environment  to students to ensure that the aspiring student is primed for the actual exam.

Generally the Law Admission Test Course is 2 – 3 months long.

Law Admission Test (LAT): Test Format

The LAT is a 100-mark test divided into two parts:

1. Objective Section: This part has 75 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each worth one mark. The subjects include:

    • English
    • General Knowledge
    • Pakistan Studies
    • Islamiat
    • Urdu
    • Mathematics

2. Subjective Section: In this part, you’ll write an essay and a personal statement.

The syllabus for the LAT has been set by the Supreme Court.

How to Apply for LAT?

LAT is conducted three times a year by the HEC. Hence, in order to register yourself for the Law Admission Test:

  • Please visit the HEC website at http://etc.hec.gov.pk, fill up your details and get registered online.
  • Pay Fee Challan in the designated bank by any of the various modes, i.e online, via ATM or through a bank draft.

Date of Examination:

  • The test will be conducted by the HEC and the date of examination will also be communicated by the HEC. Any change in the test date will be communicated through their website at http://etc.hec.gov.pk.
  • Applicants who register themselves through HEC online registration process will download their roll number slips through http://etc.hec.gov.pk, one week before the examination.
  • Email/SMS will be sent to registered applicants regarding examination date, time and venue. Candidates are required to provide a valid email/mobile number while filling the online application.
  • A print-out of roll number slip and original CNIC will be required to enter the Examination Centre.

Details of Test Centres:

The test will be conducted in all major cities. Applicants may select any examination centre from the list available in the application form. Please note that the examination centre will not be changed after registration.
